Woman fronts court after man set on fire

A court in north-east Victoria has been told a Wangaratta woman who allegedly set a man on fire had planned to kill him. Wangaratta woman Kerry Anne McNiven, 43, was charged with attempted murder after the man suffered extensive burns to his body on Wednesday night. The prosecution told the Wangaratta Magistrates Court the 50-year-old man was sitting on the ground by the Ovens River when McNiven poured petrol on him and then set him alight with a cigarette lighter. Two passers-by pulled the man into the river to extinguish the flames. He is in a critical condition.
